Angel Island is quite the historical site. From the Angel Island Association website, " From 1910 to 1940, the island processed hundreds of thousands of immigrants, the majority from China. During World War II, Japanese, and German POWs were held on the island, which was also used as a jumping-off point for American soldiers returning from the Pacific. In the ’50s and ’60s, the island was home to a Nike missile site."
On Wednesday we hiked to the top of the island. We experienced quite the fluctuation in weather from beautiful sun to a bit of rain. Luckily we were able to wait out the rain under an old building. It was well worth the couple hours it took to get up there. We had the most amazing views of the bay, the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges and the cities below! Our reward also included a fabulous picnic lunch. The kids were in their packs and napped part of the way. They really enjoyed the experience too!
